TChess

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 August 2026

TChess is a chess tactics app published by Optivio Media. This policy describes what the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

TChess works completely offline and without an account. If you never sign in, nothing about you leaves your device. The 15,000 puzzles ship inside the app; solving them involves no network request of any kind.

What we collect

If you do not sign in — nothing

Your rating, XP, streak, solved puzzles, favourites and lesson progress are stored only on your device. We cannot see them. There is no account and no profile tied to you.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional and exists for one reason: so your progress survives a lost or replaced device, and follows you between the phone app and this site.

DataWhy
Email addressTo identify your account and send the one-time sign-in code. We never email you anything else.
Puzzle rating, XP, level, timezoneSo your progress restores on a new device. Timezone is needed because a streak is a calendar day where you are, not in UTC.
Daily totalsAggregated per day. We never store a record of individual puzzle attempts.
Per-theme countersSo “Fork: 62% mastery” survives a reinstall. Seventeen numbers, nothing more.
FavouritesThe list of puzzles you saved.

Daily totals older than 120 days are deleted automatically.

What we never collect

Location. Contacts. Photos, camera or microphone. Advertising identifiers. Browsing activity. Financial information. Anything from other apps. TChess contains no advertising and no advertising SDKs.

Crash reports

When the app crashes, a report goes to Sentry so the fault can be found and fixed. It contains a stack trace, the app version and the device model. It does not contain your email, your account, any position, any game or your rating.

The app also ships a chess engine written in C++. When that crashes it takes the whole app with it before any of our own code can react, and a report from the operating system is the only way such a fault is ever visible. That is why crash reporting cannot be switched off in the app.

A copy of each error is also kept on your device and never leaves it unless you choose to send it yourself from Settings → About.

Usage analytics — optional

Counts of things like “a puzzle was solved” or “a lesson was completed”, so we can tell which parts of the app are worth improving. Every event is a number or a yes/no. No position, no game, no puzzle, no email.

These are tied to a random identifier created on your device — not to your account — so your analytics and your progress cannot be matched to each other. You can turn analytics off in Settings → Privacy. It stops immediately.

The tactics feed

The feed contains no video and makes no network requests. Every animation is drawn on your device from the puzzle database inside the app, so nothing about what you watch leaves it — there is no request to log.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, the app schedules one local reminder in the evening, and only on days you have not solved a puzzle. It is generated on your device. We send no push notifications and use notifications for no marketing.

Who else sees your data

  • Supabase — hosts the account and progress database on our behalf.
  • Sentry — receives crash reports, as described above.
  • PostHog — receives the optional usage counts, as described above.

All three are hosted in the United States. If you are in the UK, the EEA or another region with data-transfer rules, this means the data described above is transferred to the US. None of them sell your data or use it for advertising.

Children

TChess is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Your choices

  • Do not sign in. The entire app works without an account.
  • Turn analytics off in Settings → Privacy.
  • Delete everything on your device — Settings → Reset, or uninstall.
  • Delete your account and everything we hold use this form.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and material changes are noted in the app under Settings → About → What’s new.
