TChess

Refund Policy

Last updated: 25 August 2026

Almost all of TChess is free, so this page is only about TChess Pro — the opening tools. If you have not bought Pro, nothing here applies to you.

1. Who to ask depends on where you bought

TChess Pro is sold through two different merchants, and each one handles its own refunds. Check which applies to you before doing anything else — asking the wrong one costs you time and they cannot help.

  • Bought inside the Android app — the transaction is Google’s. It appears on your statement as Google, Google took the payment, and only Google can refund it. We have no ability to issue a refund for a Play purchase, whatever we might want to do.
  • Bought on tchess.app — the transaction is handled by Paddle.com, which is our merchant of record. Paddle is the seller, Paddle appears on your statement, and Paddle issues the refund.

2. Refunds on tchess.app (Paddle)

Within 14 days of the charge, you can have your money back, for any reason. You do not have to justify it and we will not ask you to. If Pro was not what you expected, that is reason enough.

After 14 days we still look at every request. Refunds outside the window are not automatic, but a charge you did not expect — a renewal you meant to cancel, a duplicate payment, a subscription on an account you no longer use — is normally refunded.

How to ask:

Once Paddle approves it, the money goes back to the card or account you paid with. How long it takes to appear is your bank’s business, not ours — usually a few days, sometimes up to ten.

3. Refunds in the Android app (Google Play)

Google refunds most purchases requested within 48 hours automatically, and considers later ones case by case. Open the Play Store, go to your subscriptions or order history, and request a refund there — or go to play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory.

If Google turns you down and you think that is wrong, write to us anyway. We cannot move the money, but we can tell Google what we know about your account, and sometimes that is what changes the answer.

4. Cancelling is not the same as a refund

Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not return the last one, and it does not cut your access short — you keep Pro until the period you already paid for runs out.

  • Play subscription — cancel in the Play Store under Payments and subscriptions. Cancel at least a day before the renewal date; Google charges on the date, not after it.
  • tchess.app subscription — cancel from paddle.net, or email us and we will do it for you.

5. Lifetime purchases

The lifetime option is a single payment, not a subscription, so there is nothing to cancel and nothing that renews. The 14-day window in section 2 applies to it in the same way as to a subscription.

“Lifetime” means the lifetime of the product, honestly stated: for as long as TChess exists and TChess Pro is a thing you can have. If TChess were ever shut down, that is what would end it. It is not a promise about your lifetime and we will not pretend it is.

6. What happens to your account after a refund

Pro comes off. The opening tools lock again, usually within a few minutes and at worst the next time your device checks in.

Nothing else is touched. Your rating, your streak, your solved puzzles, your history and any repertoire you imported all stay exactly where they are — they belong to your account, not to the subscription. If you subscribe again later, your book is still there.
